Impeccable Japanese Cuisine

One of our favorite ways to learn about a country is through sampling local foods and specialties of each region.

At Ryokan Ayunosato, they believe: “Just like beautiful landscapes and heartfelt connections with people, the flavors of our local cuisine will linger long and vividly in your memory. We use the freshest seasonal ingredients, drawing out their unique flavors to create exquisite dishes that embody the concept of shindofuji—the harmony between our bodies and the land that nourishes us. These culinary creations can only be experienced here and now.”

During our Springtime in Kuma Valley retreat, we will taste the unique, local creations carefully prepared by Kenichi Kurihara, the head chef at Ayunosato, and his team.  Ayunosato is located by the Kuma River, and is a hot spring inn that has been in business for 84 years.

Chef Kurihara has been dedicated to Japanese cuisine for 36 years. He was born and raised in Ueki Town, Kumamoto, and joined Ayunosato 14 years ago after working at inns in Kumamoto Prefecture and Kagoshima.

We can’t wait to experience his Kaiseki, multi-course meals, first hand.
